Midtown Manhattan – FDR Drive
The 2017 Macy’s Fireworks Show took place along the East River this year and did not include a barge near the Brooklyn Bridge as it did in the years’ past. This year’s show had five barges along 24th and 41st street making Midtown Manhattan one of the primetime viewing locations. The best location to view the fireworks this year was definitely along the FDR Drive.
42nd Street and FDR Drive was probably one of the best locations to view the show. Since the barges went up to 41st Street, this location was definitely ideal, however, further downtown provided viewing points as well. 34th Street and FDR Drive and 23rd Street and FDR Drive were also great and put you right in the middle of the show. Houston Street and FDR Drive and 18th Street and Avenue C were great locations as well even though these locations were further downtown.

Brooklyn and Queens
Since the fireworks were only launched over the East River, the best place to view the fireworks in other boroughs were any place that offered an unobstructed view of the East River. Brooklyn lost one of its best viewing spots, Brooklyn Bridge Park, since the barge that once was located near the Brooklyn Bridge was removed. Even though the barge was removed, Williamsburg and Greenpoint offered up a great view of the fireworks if you were looking to skip the chaos of Manhattan’s FDR Drive. Locations in Brooklyn included the WNYC Transmitter Park and East River State Park.
If you were looking to view the show from Queens, there were also great locations in the borough. Gantry State Plaza Park and Hunters Point South Park offered up a great view of the fireworks. South of 48th Avenue was closed due to a private event being hosted there, however, the area was still large enough to pick out a good spot to view the fireworks.
